There are many types of wheelchairs and one of the most basic factors to consider when choosing is if a self propelled or attendant controlled is appropriate. Once you have decided, then focus on the frame of the chair (aluminium frames tend to be lighter in weight than steel ones) and what aspects of mobility are important to the user. Also be sure to consider whether the chair is to be used in the home as well as outside.
If the user has to sit in the chair for long periods, then a pressure relief cushion would be a perfect accompaniment . If side transfers are required then check that the arms of the wheelchair are detachable.
